What Exactly Is Pulsatile Tinnitus?
If you have pulsatile tinnitus you will hear noises in your ear that you will think are a rhythmic pulsing to them. It can at times be thought that you are hearing your heart, or the sound will beat in the same time as your heart.
This type of ear ringing is also possibly a whooshing or thumping sound. Sometimes this is called vascular tinnitus instead, thus named because it is caused by a disturbance in your blood flow. Around 3% of people who suffer from tinnitus will have pulsatile tinnitus.
When the blood vessels inside your neck or head are disturbed and the blood doesn't flow the right way is when you will experience this type of ear ringing. It can either be from the blood flow becoming stronger, or the vessel may be narrowing and letting less blood through. Because of this it will not be a continued noise like other tinnitus sufferers go through.
There are several people who can suffer from both continuous and pusatile tinnitus together. If you feel that you have this type of tinnitus, it is very important that you get checked out. At times this condition can be caused by some very serious conditions possibly leading to stroke if not checked on time.
Though not always on the first exam of x-rays will a physician be able to see anything irregular. That is why you should get a second opinion if you continue to have this problem. See it's not always easy for a doctor to see what is going on if it's hidden behind bone or tissue.
Good news for those people who may have this type of tinnitus though, the rate of complete recovery is very high. There are many possible causes to this type of tinnitus so please make sure that you have it checked into if you suffer from it.
